Monument in the Making: Monument Design Unveiling

  • Unity Square 81 Remsen Avenue New Brunswick, NJ, 08901 United States (map)

Over the past several months, monument artist Chat Travieso has been in deep conversation with community stakeholders—listening to stories, insights, and hopes for a monument honoring migration and labor in Central Jersey. Drawing from these workshops and collective exchanges, Chat has developed a near-final vision for the monument.

Join us for this final Monument in the Making public workshop, where Chat will unveil the proposed design and share how community input has shaped the work. Thinkery and Verse will be also doing a performance that is a reflection of the community dialogues that informed creating this monument.

Thinkery & Verse will perform Quien íntimamente vive con Lluvia is a play centered on the lives of Latino laborers in Middlesex County, NJ. The production follows a hospital cleaner and a construction worker through a single day, weaving their intimate inner thoughts with a physical embodiment of the trials and triumphs they face. Through this fusion of narration and movement, the play explores the depth and resilience found within their daily existence.
