Mural Unveiling - Celebrating the Legacy of Alice Jennings Archibald

This event will be streamed live on Facebook @colabarts starting at 4pm on Friday, January 29.

Please join coLAB Arts and the City of New Brunswick for a virtual unveiling of a new mural series in Alice Jennings Archibald Park. The work celebrates the legacy of Mrs. Archibald in connection to the students of McKinley Community School. The series, entitled “It is better to light a candle then curse the darkness” was created by New Brunswick-born mural artist RH Doaz through community conversations in collaboration with Mount Zion AME Church and New Brunswick Area NAACP, and interviews with Mrs. Archibald’s family members. Research support was provided by Rutgers University’s Scarlet & Black Project, Special Collections at Alexander Library, and the New Brunswick Free Public Library.

This project was created in part with funding from the Middlesex County Office of Arts and History and the Middlesex County Board of Commissioners.
