Cheryl Patton Wu, born in Perth Amboy, NJ, is a fiber artist living and working in Cape May, NJ. She creates fabric collages based on personal stories of memory and place, especially as it pertains to the South Jersey landscape. Patton Wu earned a BFA from Syracuse University (Major in Ceramics’ Minor in Fiber) and an MFA from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville (Fiber and Fabric). After receiving her degrees, Cheryl moved back to the eastern seacoast to once again experience the beaches and shore regions of the Atlantic. Time spent in Martha’s Vineyard, Nantucket, Cape Ann, Cape Cod, Fenwick Island, Virginia Beach, Nags Head, and of course the Jersey Shore, have all contributed to the development of Cheryl’s art. From October 2024 into January 2025, Patton Wu had a solo exhibition at The Noyes Museum of Art titled A View From Home which resulted in the purchase of three works for the Museum’s permanent collection. In 2023, Patton Wu was selected as a Grand Jury Award Finalist for Manifest Gallery, and was published in 2022 in Manifest Exhibition Annual Season 17. In the fall of 2023, she presented a solo exhibition, Grounded: The Here and Where of Being, at Perkins Center for the Arts, Collingswood, NJ. The artist has shown in group invitational and juried exhibitions across New Jersey: Monmouth Museum, Stockton University Art Gallery, Arts & Innovation Center of Rowan College South Jersey, Marlin Gallery Camden County College (in conjunction with South Jersey Cultural Alliance); in Pennsylvania: Bridgette Mayer Gallery and Old City Jewish Arts Center in Philadelphia, Henry Gallery at Penn State, Community Art Center in Wallingford, Cheltonham Center for the Arts; and at the Kay Daugherty Gallery at Annmarie Sculpture Garden and Arts Center (affiliate of the Smithsonian) in Maryland.
