The Part of You That Never Dies

Tania Pomales is a New Jersey-based Puerto Rican artist whose work delves into dark, surreal themes with a signature style that juxtaposes vibrant color palettes against somber, sorrowful motifs. Specializing in oil painting, Pomales draws from her bold and colorful heritage and cultural roots to create visually enchanting pieces that explore the complexities of life, death, and the cyclical nature of the human experience. Her work often incorporates anatomical elements and skull imagery, symbolizing deeper reflections on mortality, mental health, and personal introspection. This recurring theme of skulls in her work has earned her the nickname the “Skull Queen” in the art community.

Pomales earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts with a concentration in painting from Stockton University, graduating with Summa Cum Laude honors as Salutatorian of her class. Her academic background, which includes studies in business management, marketing, and accounting, has equipped her with the tools to manage all aspects of her profession, from marketing and client relations to taxes, logistics, and everything in between. Throughout her career, Pomales has exhibited in prominent galleries across the U.S., including Copro Gallery, The Dark Art Emporium, KEEP Contemporary, and Cactus Gallery, where her work has been featured in numerous group exhibitions.

When she isn’t diving deep into her painted worlds, you can find Pomales in a cozy gaming chair immersed in all kinds of videogames such as Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Elden Ring, Baldur’s Gate 3, Lies of P, and more. This passion for gaming has also informed several of her recent pieces and is a connection she plans to explore further in future projects, aiming to bring a light to the artistry of game development and how visual storytelling and wells of inspiration extend far beyond preconceived notions of what “fine art” means.
